The Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook
A commissioned culinary photography project by Rohit Chawla for Chef Manish Mehrotra’s landmark Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook, translating the restaurant’s contemporary Indian cuisine into a refined visual language of food, form, texture and presentation.
Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook documents the visual and culinary identity of one of India’s most influential contemporary restaurants. Created around Chef Manish Mehrotra’s inventive approach to Indian cuisine, the project brought Rohit Chawla’s distinctive photographic sensibility to a collection of dishes that combine Indian memories, flavours and ingredients with global techniques. Rather than treating the food simply as recipe documentation, the photographs give each plate an individual graphic presence—using composition, texture, restraint and controlled detail to communicate both appetite and artistry. The cookbook brought together 74 dishes selected from Indian Accent’s repertoire, with the food styled by Manish Mehrotra and photographed by Rohit Chawla. Published by India Viking / Penguin Random House India in 2016, the project became an important visual record of the restaurant during a defining period in the development of contemporary Indian dining.
